The Rainbow Loom Mystery

Child's wrist wearing a vibrant handmade rainbow loom bracelet alongside other bracelets

Maya is making bracelets for her friends using her favorite Rainbow Loom bands. She has 48 bands in total. She wants to make matching bracelets using only 3 colors: neon pink, ocean blue, and lime green.

She decides to use the same number of bands for each color.

  • Let p be the number of pink bands.
  • Let b be the number of blue bands.
  • Let g be the number of green bands.

Your Task:

  1. Write a division equation to find out how many bands Maya has of each color.
  2. Fill in the missing numbers to solve for the variables below:
    • p = _____
    • b = _____
    • g = _____

Answer Key

Division Equation:
48 divided by 3 = 16

Algebraic Solutions:
Since Maya uses the exact same number of bands for each colour, the 48 total bands are split into 3 equal groups.

p = 16 pink bands

b = 16 blue bands

g = 16 green bands
