Earth day happens every year on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The 2024 theme is “Planet vs. Plastics.” Especially in primary schools, teachers will adapt their lessons to incorporate support and awareness of Earth Day.
ORIGIN: Proposed by peace activist John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO conference, and started out as a political movement in America. An oil spill near Santa Barbara earlier in the year was one of the catalysts leading up to it, as well as general awareness of environmental pollution was on the rise. According to http://www.earthday.org, their organization is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement.
