Vaisakhi, harvest festival

Vaisakhi is a major Sikh religious festival. It is known as a harvest festival with lots of culture, dancing, sharing food, showing appreciation and building community. Some schools may have special activities, food, or possibly an assembly to celebrate and respect this religious event during April.

ORIGIN: On April 13, 1699 the tenth Guru of the Sikhs established a special religious order called Khalsa. Also in 1801 on this date Ranjit Singh was proclaimed an Indian prince (maharaja) of the Sikh Empire, creating a unified political state.
